Cheap self storage units near West Bridgford
The village of West Bridgford was first mentioned in the Domesday Book as “the village of Brigeforde”. The “e” was subsequently dropped from the name before a brief revival in a 1774 surveyed map. The famous Trent Bridge was constructed in 1871 and cost £30,000 – that’s just over £3.6 million today! The cricket ground of the same name is the third oldest test ground in the world, with the inaugural match between England and Australia in 1899 ending in a draw.
The town itself has a pleasant high street with a couple of coffee shops, bars and restaurants. You’ll mainly find French and Italian cuisine here, as well as a tapas bar tucked just behind the main street. West Bridgford is also home to The City Ground, home of Nottingham Forest Football Club. Interestingly, the ground is mere 270 metres from Notts County’s home turf, Meadow Lane. This makes the two stadiums the closest in England at professional level.
Did you know that the creator of HP sauce, Frederick Gibson Garton once lived in West Bridgford? Keeping with the food and drink theme, Sir Horatio Davies, the man largely responsible for Pimms, purchased the West Bridgford estate in 1889.
