Back in the early 20^th century, Sharston was mostly farmland. However, during the 1920s the area became hot with industrial activity. The newly-built Sharston industrial estate featured – among other businesses – a dairy and a Bisto factory, as well as a post office. In 1961, a public pool was open with multiple diving facilities. It was Manchester’s largest at 32 metres. Unfortunately, the pool closed in 1990 following local authority budget cuts.
