Here are the top five things you and your friends can do to get some Christmas cheer this year:

1. Attend the Magic Lantern Festival

Taking Christmas lights to a whole new level, The Magic Lantern Festival at Chiswick House Gardens is a must-do if you’re going to be in London over Christmas.

The festival, which will run from 24 November to 1 January features hundreds of handmade, illuminated lanterns, unique grottos, rides and a Christmas market. There is even a Santa’s grotto and a selection of food and drink vendors to make sure you don’t go hungry as you explore the 65 acres of Christmas lights and fun.

Who knows, the festival might even inspire you to turn your own garden into a magical wonderland this Christmas. If you do decide to do this, there’s no need to worry about where to put all your lights and decorations when the festive season is over. We can help with storage in Fulham or anywhere else in London!

2. Skate at Somerset House

Your London Christmas won’t be complete without a visit to an outdoor ice skating rink! Not sure which one to go to? We’d suggest checking out the iconic ice skating rink at Somerset House.

You can go during the day, or even at night! This year, Somerset House will also host a range of dedicated Skate Late nights, when the rink’s music selection will be taken over by the likes of Peckham-based radio station Balamii, Field Day founders and promoters Eat Your Own Ears, London's biggest 90s and Noughties hip hop and R&B night Supa Dupa Fly.

3. Visit Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland

Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland

Looking for things to do in London at Christmas that the whole family can enjoy? A fun-filled day at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland is sure to fit the bill. This festival has become a landmark event for Londoners at Christmas time, and with so much to do, it’s not difficult to see why!

From its humble beginnings as an open-air Christmas market in Hyde Park, the Winter Wonderland has since grown into an extravaganza with ice skating, shows, roller coaster rides, street food stalls, festive bars and live music. What’s more, it’s still free to enter (although the rides and some experiences are on a paid for basis).

If you’re from out of town and visiting London over Christmas, you should definitely make a plan to stop by! In fact, why not make it your first stop for a great introduction to London at Christmas time! Our luggage storage Kings Cross services mean you can easily explore the town from the minute you arrive without worrying about your bags!

4. Watch Antic Disposition’s A Christmas Carol

There’s nothing quite like a Christmas-themed play to get you in a celebratory mood. A great option is Antic Disposition’s musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ festive classic A Christmas Carol which will be on at Middle Temple Hall this December.

The show combines the ghostly tale of miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, with a score of original songs inspired by the carols of a traditional Victorian Christmas. It returns to the London stage for a fourth time this year, after having sold out in 2012, 2014 and 2015.

5. Stroll through the Royal Botanical Gardens

You’ve likely visited the Kew Gardens in the daylight before, but have you seen it lit up by more than a million lights?

If you’re looking for things to do in London at Christmas, you should definitely consider attending Christmas at Kew. Get together with friends and family and take a stroll along the sparkling trail that’s more than a mile long! On the route you’ll see singing trees, larger-than-life flora, giant baubles and a flickering fire garden. You can also visit Santa and his elves at the North Pole village and enjoy some fairground rides.
