Painting is a pretty tricky job – making the paint goes on smooth without leaving streaks on the wall or getting loads on the floor is no easy feat. Working with a paintbrush that has seen better days will only make it more difficult.
For this reason, some of the handiest DIY tips relate to keeping your paintbrushes in prime condition. It is of course, important to always clean your brushes after painting, but there is more you can do.
As soon as your paintbrush has dried, put an elastic band around the bristles. This will keep them in shape and reduce the chance of damage. To keep your brushes in even better condition you can hang them from a clothes hanger. This will keep them safe and in perfect shape.
Drilling a hole in a wall can be a messy business. The process will inevitably create dust that is bound to end up everywhere. But luckily this can be avoided by using this handy DIY hack. Before you start drilling, stick an empty envelope to the wall below the spot you’ll be drilling. The envelope is sure to catch most of the dust from your drilling process.
A screw that simply doesn’t want to come out can easily derail a DIY project. But you don’t have to let it. There are many DIY tips online relating to dealing with stripped screws, but this is by far the most effective one: use a rubber band.
How will this work? Well, it’s actually quite simple. Put a rubber band between the screw and your screwdriver and apply hard but slow force as you turn. The rubber band should create enough grip to make the screw move.
A shower head that’s clogged and grimy does not make for a relaxing shower experience. Good news is, while it may sound like a huge task, cleaning a shower head is almost no work at all, if you use the right method.
According to the A Real Housewife blog all you have to do is fill a plastic bag with distilled white vinegar and tie it over the showerhead with a rubber band. Leave it to soak for an hour or so and wipe clean. As easy as that.
How many minutes of DIY time have you lost looking for the end of a roll of tape, and once you’ve found it, trying to get it loose? Probably lots. But never again. When you’re done using the roll of tape, put a paperclip on the end. This way it can’t stick to the rest of the roll and you’ll be able to find the start easily the next time around.
