Our Birmingham stores serve all of Birmingham's Universities: our Birmingham Central store is just a short distance from Aston and Birmingham City University city centre campuses; whilst our Selly Oak store on the Harbourne road serves both the Edgebaston and Selly Oak campuses of The University of Birmingham. Security and insurance
All our Birmingham stores offer secure individual storage units, protected by 24 hour CCTV monitoring, BT Redcare intruder detection systems and smoke alarms.
Our Erdington and Birmingham Central storage centres are gated with perimeter fencing. Birmingham Central also offers individually alarmed storage units, with access via an 8 digit PIN code.
Our corridors are wide and well lit, and all floors have a manned emergency phone.
We can also arrange insurance cover, specifically designed for self storage, so you can be confident your belongings are fully protected.
In all out Birmingham stores, accessing your storage unit is easy. We offer extensive reception opening hours 7 days a week. We also offer free 24 hour access in our Birmingham Central store, so you can visit your storage unit as many times as you like, 24 hours a day using your unique PIN code. And its all included in your normal monthly rental.
So you don’t have to struggle when moving your goods to your unit, we supply parking, trolleys and pallet trucks free of charge.
For our business storage customers, we also offer a receipt and dispatch service and will hold your delivery free of charge for 24 hours.

If at any time you find you need to change your unit size, or take out another one, you can! We’ll help you change without penalty so that you only ever pay for the space you need.

Our business offer
We provide a complete small business service from bulk storage, drive-up units, vehicle storage space and forklifting, to a virtual office service including mail boxes and phone answering, offices (Erdington and Selly Oak stores) and a courier pick-up service.

1. Select your store
Using the above map or list of our storage centres, or our Find a store tool, simply select your most convenient facility. All Access stores offer 24 hour CCTV monitoring and a full range of storage unit sizes. Most stores are also open 7 days a week, and all of them offer free customer parking and trolley use.
2. Choose your unit type and size
We will help you choose the right unit size for your storage needs using our online tools and guides, or, you can speak to a member of our team.
All our units are secure individual storage rooms and most people choose our standard storage units. If you need to access your personal or business items on a regular basis you may want a premium unit with particularly easy access - the choice is yours.
3. Reserve your storage unit
For just £10 you can secure your chosen storage unit - either online, by phone or in store. This reservation fee is taken off the cost of your storage, or is fully refundable provided you cancel before the day you are due to move in.
4. Pack your items
Access Self Storage offer a full range of moving and cardboard boxes, and packing materials. Either visit your chosen storage facility, or visit our online Packaging Shop, where you can arrange for your boxes to be delivered directly to you.
5. Transport your things
Our store team can take the hassle out of moving your personal or business items by recommending local removal companies, man-with-a-van services or van hire. They may also be able to offer you a special deal on the hire.
6. Check-in and move-in
We know moving home, decorating or reorganising you office's documents or stock is stressful so we'll send you a reminder email and text informing you of exactly what you need to do next.
You have to come to the store reception to sign your storage agreement, but to save time you can check-in online and we will have all the details ready when you arrive.
We will change your unit size if you find you have a few more or less items to store than you anticipated, and you can then access your storage space as little or often as you choose whilst being confident your items are stored securely.
Whether you've stored with Access for just 1 week or a number of years, simply give us 7 days notice in writing (an email is fine) when you want to vacate. You will then be refunded for any unused days.
Frequently asked questions
Are your units temperature controlled?
The temperature in our storage rooms remains fairly stable – notwithstanding seasonal variations – and is ideal for the storage of normal personal and business items such as furniture, filing, stock and equipment. Are there any items I can’t store?
You can use your unit to store almost any personal or business item, as long as they are not:
- Against the law
- Hazardous or could easily catch fire
- A living thing such as a plant or animal
- Cash or something worth a large amount of money
- Likely to decompose or fall apart
What is the minimum rental period?
The minimum time you can rent a storage unit is 7 days.
How long can I stay?
You are welcome to stay as long as you continue to need storage, and can change unit size at any point within that.
When and how often can I access my unit?
You can access your storage unit as many times as you like during our extensive reception hours – which are generally 7 days a week. In stores offering 24 or extended hours access, you can continue to access your unit as often as you require using your unique PIN code – at no additional charge.
What is included in the rental price? Are there any hidden charges?
Your monthly fee includes rent, rates, utilities, maintenance and even VAT (where it is chargeable). We won’t apply an administration fee, and only certain types of payment plan require a fully-refundable deposit. You will require a padlock and insurance cover, which you can purchase from Access. Where extended or 24 hour access is available, it is free of charge.
How do I pay for my storage unit?
We offer a number of options including direct debit, credit or debit card, and cheque. We do not however take cash.
Is insurance compulsory and how is it calculated?
Insurance is a requirement of renting storage space within the UK. We can arrange storage-specific cover from £5 per month per £1,000 of goods insured, with a minimum of £2,000 cover. If you choose to arrange your own policy, your store team will ask you to provide proof of this and advise on what is required.
What are your opening hours?
Our reception opening hours are generally 08.30 – 18.00 Mon – Fri, 08.30 – 17.00 Sat and 10.00 – 16.00 Sun, although many of our stores also offer 24 hr PIN coded access. Please see individual store pages for specific details.
Do I have to reserve my storage space?
No, although if you want to guarantee your space it’s advisable. The fee is just £10 and is refunded against the rental cost when you move in.
Can I move in today?
Yes you can. You will need to bring suitable proof of identity (a passport), proof of address (a recent utility bill), and a means of payment other than cash. Once you have completed the Agreement, you can then move in straight away.
